About this Charity-Based Event

My name is Rhodri Leach and I am training for what has been widely called “the toughest foot race on Earth”, the 2007 Marathon Des Sables. The “Marathon Des Sables” is an endurance event that requires the participants to run five and a half marathons (230km) in six days across the Sahara Desert. Midday temperatures regularly soar to 120 degrees F, and competitors are required to carry most of their supplies. This is a charity-based event close to my heart; therefore I am looking to raise as much support and sponsorship as possible.

Why I am running the Marathon Des Sables

I wish to raise money for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance in honor of eight-year-old Haley Lynch, a delightful young girl who lives in my neighborhood (Roxborough Village near Denver, Colorado). Haley suffers from Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), which is a devastating disorder that causes tumors to form in various organs including the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, liver and lungs. People diagnosed with TSC often develop epilepsy and autism, and have learning and behavioral problems. The disorder affects some people severely, while others are so mildly affected that it often goes undiagnosed. Unfortunately, Haley is severely affected, having the above-mentioned symptoms accompanied with mental retardation and developmental delays.

In Haley’s short life, she has already had to endure a number of surgical interventions to try to improve her standard of living, including bi-yearly surgery to remove hundreds of fibrous tumors from her face, and brain surgery (a sizeable piece of brain tissue was removed from her temporal lobe to try to help control the irrepressible barrage of seizures she has endured her entire life). This latter procedure wasn’t entirely successful and she continues to have daily seizures.

Haley is an adorable child with so much potential. She is unknowingly inspirational to so many. Haley’s parents have been subjected to an unfathomable amount of emotional and physical trauma. The family’s struggle and their limitless supply of love and patience have touched my life. They dare to dream of a cure in the future for Haley, and I want to ensure that their dream is kept alive by raising money for this worthy cause. Your financial donation is tax deductible (Tax I.D. 95-3018799).

So if you are viewing this webpage please help this worthy cause by pledging your support to this endevour--this is an opportunity to have a direct impact on a family located in your backyard. So please support the Lynch family by sponsoring my endurance race – any donation, (gear, apparel, money) would be of huge benefit. In appreciation of your support I would be more than happy to give a presentation of my adventure to your entity/company on my return, and help promote your entity/company in any way possible.
